Robin Hood's Bay

 | There are many theories about how the village acquired its name, but favourite among these relates to the famous 'Prince of Thieves' himself. Legend has it that the notorious outlaw, Robin Hood, kept several boats in the bay in case he needed a speedy escape from Nottingham to the continent. |
| Today, non-residents are denied vehicle access to the main village, but ample parking is available at the top of the hill. The walk down is steep and can be a little strenuous but is well worth the effort. Take a seat in one of the welcoming cafes for a brief respite,or browse around the local shops. The bay stretches round to Boggle Hole and when the tide is out, it is a great place for children to explore the numerous rock pools. There are even fossils to be found hidden in the rocks. |  |
| There is a choice of hotels and bed and breakfasts, all walking distance from the sea front. Self-catering accommodation is available in an assortment of holiday cottages and camping and caravan sites. Located north of Scarborough and south of Whitby, it is the ideal location for exploring the Yorkshire coastline and the North York Moors National Park. There are plenty of walks along the coastline and through the adjoining countryside and moorland. |
