Home > Barnsley

Barnsley is located between Leeds and Sheffield and easily accessable from the M1. Situated in the heart of Yorkshire, the town not only contains a bustling centre providing shopping, fine dining and culture but is also one of the most beautiful settings in the country. Barnsley's famous market has been a local landmark for over seven hundred years. With an excess of three hundred stalls in both indoor and open areas it's an ideal venue to find anything and everything. The market hall is open daily from 8.30am until 5pm with the exception of Thursdays and Sundays when it's closed. The town centre contains a variety of high street stores as well as a selection of exclusive designer boutiques all within walking distance of the numerous coffee shops offering refreshment to the weary shopper.
Its prime postion on the Trans-Pennine Trail means that walking, cycling and horse-riding are very popular around Barnsley. Golf (four courses), sailing and fishing are also available. Major events take place from May to November, including a walking festival in May, children's festival in June, summer carnival in July and Halloween festival in October.
Despite its size Barnsley's close proximity to many beautiful attractions can make it feel like the middle of the countryside. The historic visitor attraction of Pot House Hamlet is located only 2 miles from the M1 in the heart of the Yorkshire countryside. Amenities on site include the Potting Shed Cafe as well as the renowned rose grower and nurseryman, Tom Horsfield. Cannon Hall Museum, Park and Open Gardens, a fine country estate, is open to the public throughout the year (bar Mondays and Tuesdays). Set in the beautiful village of Cawthorne is The Cawthorne Victorian Jubilee Museum, displaying unique collections of wartime relics and memorabilia. Other places of interest include; The Cooper Gallery, Elsecar Heritage Centre, The Elsecar Steam Railway, The Maize Maze and The Metrodome. There are also many charming villages and towns in the area to explore, including Penistone, Elsecar and Cawthorne.Barnsley
Hotels offering bed and breakfast have great deals on short breaks. Self catering accommodation is available in picturesque Cawthorne and surrounding villages. There is even a YHA Youth Hostel not far from Barnsley and of course plenty of caravan and camping sites!
